Bethany's Stained Glass

In 1972 Bethany was seriously damaged by fire. Out of the tragedy of the vandalism, Bethany chose to remain in the neighborhood--already in a state of decline--rather than move to an easier ministry in the suburbs.

As the sanctuary was rebuilt, it was decided to proclaim our gratitude to God and our faith in his leading by making a statement all could see. The stained glass windows were commissioned to be a witness to all, even when the building was empty.

The windows tell the story of Christ and are full of symbolism. To help each member be aware of the meaning, Dr. Terwilliger created a series of Sunday School classes to explore the windows. The classes are available as MP3 files, linked below. Pictures of the windows appear further below. By launching the MP3 file, which will be in a new window, and returning to this page you can view the window while it is being discussed.

To listen to class session, click on the link below. A new window will open with the directory of available files. Click on the name of the file you would like to hear. If your computer asks if you want to save or open the file, click on the "open" option.

The security covering on the windows which was installed in 1972 had become seriously deteriorated due to sunlight, and, in 2019, a fund raising effort was started to replace the covers.  We thank all of those donors whose generosity made the project a success.
